The window on the left shows what is on your
machine, and the window on the right shows what is on the machine you've connected to. To
transfer files back and forth, simply click on a file to highlight it (you can hold down
the control button while you click on order to highlight multiple files), and then press
the appropriate arrow button between the windows. For example, if you want to download a
file from the computer you've connected to, click on it once to highlight it, then press
the button with the left-pointing arrow on it. The file will download to your computer.
To enter a directory showing in one of the windows,
double click on it. Alternately, to go up a directory, double-click on the green,
up-pointing arrow in the upper-left of whichever screen you are working in. For example,
if you wanted to put up a web page, you would want to double-click on the 'public_html'
directory showing in the right window.
To close your connection, click the Close
button on the lower-left. To close the program, click the Exit button on the
lower-right. To open a new connection, click the lower-left button again (it will say Connect
if there is no connection currently open.
WS_FTP is a powerful program, and there is more you
can do with it, but these instructions should get you started with being able to upload
and download files from remote machines.
