Transferring a Domain Name to Full Radius

1. What’s a domain transfer?

Simply put, a domain transfer is moving your domain name from one Internet Service Provider (ISP) to another.

A domain "transfer" is actually a modification to a domain’s information—specifically a change in the primary and secondary name servers of the domain. Name servers are computers that contain the relevant information for domains: who handles the mail for the domain, where www.domain.com is, where ftp.domain.com is, etc.

When you transfer your domain to Full Radius from another ISP, the InterNIC will change the name servers listed for your domain. That, in effect, moves the domain over to us and gives us control over where e-mail, www, and ftp for your domain go.

2. Will my domain be unavailable for any length of time?

Whenever you transfer a domain, you should expect the domain to be out of service for 1 to 3 days. If it’s critical that your site remain up, make sure you check the box labeled "initiate my transfer later." This will ensure you have a Web site both with your old provider and us. When the transfer happens (and we have no control over when it happens, see "How are transfers done?), you will experience a minimal loss of presence. If you check this box we will begin processing your request for Web space immediately but will wait for you to contact us before we initiate the domain transfer.

If you’re currently using domain e-mail aliases or you have an active Web site at http://www.yourdomain.com, the timing of your transfer may be important. For most customers, there’s no problem with initiating the transfer immediately.

3. How long do transfers take?

They can take anywhere from two days to two weeks. Read below to learn how you can speed up this process.

4. How do I initiate a transfer?

The first step is to have Full Radius send a template to the InterNIC on your behalf. This template will contain the information you want your domain to reflect when the transfer is completed—our name servers most importantly.

  1. Using your Web browser, go to Full Radius’s Domain Registration page:

https://fixme/webhost/signup/step1.html

  1. You will see a page that contains a form allowing you to enter the domain name to be transferred. Enter the domain name, and choose one of the three options.
  2. Click the Continue button, and follow the instructions on the next several web pages.

The result of this process is that Full Radius will have the information necessary to fill out the template and send it to the InterNIC. The InterNIC will then send e-mail messages to the listed contacts (3 and 4 in the table below) asking for their authorization. If either the Administrative or the Technical contact replies (from the same e-mail address) with an authorization, the InterNIC will approve the transfer.

5. What information does Full Radius need?

We did a "whois" lookup on the Full Radius domain test.com as an example. The bold face information in the left column is an example of what we need to transfer your domain:

1) Registrant:

Full Radius
(TEST-DOM)
1430 West AppleGate Street
Wayland, MA 01778
USA

This is the organizational owner of the domain. It can be a business or an individual.
2) Domain Name:

TEST.COM

The domain name.
3) Administrative Contact:

Nixon, J. Fred (JFN) jnixon@FULLRADIUS.COM
508-650-1442

This is someone at the organization who can answer non-technical questions about the domain and the organization’s planned use for the domain name.
4) Technical Contact, Zone Contact:

Full Radius Domain Registrar (FULLR-NOC) dns@FULLRADIUS.COM
508 650-1442

The Technical Contact should be someone who can answer technical questions regarding the domain - DNS, e-mail aliasing, etc. When your domain is transferred to Full Radius, we will become the Technical Contact for your domain.
5) Billing Contact:

Peavler, K. Anne (KAP4) peavler@FULLRADIUS.COM
508-650-1442
(FAX) 508-653-4479

The Billing Contact is the person who handles billing issues for the domain.

6. What if my e-mail address is not listed as technical or administrative contact?

Contact the listed technical contact for your domain. This e-mail address should belong to someone who can authorize the transfer for you. If the technical contact is not available or the information is incorrect, just send us a fax (508-653-4479) Attn: Domain Registrar) on company letterhead with the following text:

As an authorized representative for [organization], the owner of [yourdomain.com], I authorize the transfer of [yourdomain.com] to Full Radius’s servers.

Then state your reason for the transfer.

If the domain’s Administrative Contact is changing, you must include the new Administrative Contact information:

  • name or title
  • telephone number
  • a valid e-mail address that works right now

Finally, the document must be signed by an officer of the organization, and include the printed name, title, and telephone number of this officer.
